Supervision and
Support Work
As a human who has spent a long time navigating the mental health system here in Victoria, and then immersing myself in the world of being a therapist and working with others outside clinical structures, I’ve found myself now in the glorious position of providing peer supervision to other therapeutic workers with lived experience.
I provide peer supervision that centres on how we work as therapists with HUGE space for our own experiences within systems we might not have chosen to participate in.
It can be a blurry space when we work in fields that we have experience within, and so holding supervision spaces where this is acknowledged, navigated and celebrated help us to become better therapeutic workers.
Some things we need to navigate:
- workload
- working within systems that might not fully align with our values
- our own needs connected to our disabilities
- developing practices and processes that best suit our way of working
- navigating the therapeutic relationships we provide
ALSO: supervision is also a space for co-learning, and acknowledging the importance of this is key to continued growth as humans and therapeutic workers.
