Creativity feels like communicating beyond words, and it is in so much of what we do, formal creativity is like a focused extension of the everyday creativity in our lives. All of it is action, a connection, to self or other.

About Lucy

I began my creative journey as a child, like we all did! Creativity has been a mainstay in my life in many different forms, whether that be dancing and gymnastics as a child, amateur pantomimes in highschool, and singing and theatre at university.

While at university doing my bachelors degree I experienced the first of many breakdowns leading to significant time spent in hospitals and navigating the psychiatric system. 10 years on, I found a sense of space that was predominantly outside the medical model and this is where I found growth and movement. After my lengthy bachelors degree I pursued a lengthy Masters in Therapeutic Arts Practice at The MIECAT Institute which played an important role in recovering from my time in the psychiatric system.

During my work placement at Headspace Knox, I met Chenai Mupotsa, the founder of Rainbow Muse. I feel like Chenai helped me step further outside the system and into a sense of confidence in our glorious messy human selves. I’ve been working at Rainbow Muse since 2020 and it is a space I treasure and can continue to grow in. I provide art therapy and peer support there, to people aged 5 to 50.

I’m STILL navigating my place as a peer, a person living with mental illness and working as a therapist in systems that aren’t built for peers to have a valued space amongst health workers. It’s a space I’m leaning into and exploring with other peers, and I feel grateful that Rainbow Muse has provided this supportive space.
